Prostitution - 10/30/2002
One thing we all have learned
about the Internet is that sex and gambling are
king. Our article about the brothels
and bordellos in Nevada continues to be
one of the most visited pages on our site. The
interest level of our website and brothels article
is a strong indication that real-life interests
in Las Vegas rate sex and gambling at the top
of the list. My recent trip to Las Vegas supports
that theory.
Our first night in Vegas, we
ended up at Rum Jungle at Mandalay Bay with a
few drinks down the hatch. No sooner than we had
walked out of the bar, we were met by two beautiful
women standing near the restrooms. Of course,
I have visited Vegas many times, and was suspicious
of their motives, but my Vegas-Newbie guest did
not have a clue. I wanted to see how far it would
go, so I played along as an unknowing tourist.
One thing led to another and we all ended up in
our suite. Soon we found ourselves being propositioned
for $300 each. Needless to say, they were kicked
out of our room. Their last comment was that "if
you see a beautiful girl in a Vegas casino - she
is most likely an "escort"." After
they left, my guest disclosed that he was amazed
at how easily he had been "fooled".
Soon afterwards my guest and I had a small discussion
and he agreed on a code word for a prostitute
- "Pseudo Talent".
Our next night out brought us
to the Hard Rock casino at the "Center Bar".
We were approached by 2 women. One looked a lot
like Jamie Lee Curtis, and the other was an dropdead
gorgeous knockout. I personally could not believe
that the second was a prostitute and she was very
appealing to us both. I made it clear that she
had no chance at hooking us and she was soon on
her way.
At just about every casino we
visited throughout the week, we were propositioned
by women - many of them very beautiful. These
casinos were high, medium, and low class casinos
- it didn't matter. They included Bellagio, Mandalay
Bay, Rio, Treasure Island, Hard Rock, Mirage,
Golden Nugget, and Stratosphere.
I asked some of the prostitutes
questions and found interesting tidbits of information.
If you don't know the term already, the women
are called call girls or escorts and typically
have incomes well over $200,000.00 (cash) per
year. They can usually be found at the casino
bars or roaming the casino areas. The going rate
for an "escort" was approximately $300.00
per hour. Some have established websites, set
territories, and are well-trained at approaching
potential customers. Many offered beeper and cell
phone numbers in case we happened to "change
your minds". One woman we talked to travels
between Atlantic City and Las Vegas to catch the
prime tourist seasons. Another woman worked part-time
as a legal secretary in California and commuted
to Las Vegas to earn extra money several nights
a week.
Regardless of what was just mentioned
above, be advised that prostitution in Las Vegas
and Clark county is illegal. It would never be
admitted, but casinos commonly overlook the activity
as they know that it will attract people with
money. That being said, watch out for the "Pseudo
Talent!"
