Atlantic City Transportation

When you visit Atlantic City, be prepared to walk the boardwalk. If your legs get tired, you won't be stranded, as there are a few options. Jitneys, Rolling Chairs, Cabs, or Rental Cars.

Of the options, the Jitney is least expensive and in my opinion the best and most convenient. What is a Jitney you may ask? It is a 13 passenger bus. They have been serving visitors and locals since 1915. Jitneys operate 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Each ride costs $1.50 and they run often. Senior Citizen discounts and Frequent Rider ticket books are available. Jitneys travel the entire length of the city, from the Inlet to Jackson Ave., from the Marina area to Pacific Avenue, servicing practically all major Atlantic City attractions. Jitney stops are located along Pacific Avenue - one block from the Boardwalk. Every Jitney stop will have a sign with color-coded numbers. Decide your route, then just look for the corresponding color coded number on each Jitney. Hang on once you sit down, because those drivers like to put the petal to the metal! Here are the Jitney routes:

#1 Pink - New Hampshire Avenue to Jackson Avenue, via Pacific Avenue.

#2 Blue - Marina Area - Trump Marina and Harrah's via Delaware Avenue to Pacific Avenue.

#3 Green - Marina Area - Trump Marina and Harrah's via Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. to Inlet on Pacific Avenue.

#4 Orange - From Jackson Avenue to Indiana Avenue, to Atlantic Avenue go to Michigan to the Bus Terminal, new Convention Center & Train Station. Orange runs from 7 am to 7 pm.

The Rolling Chairs have been around since the 1800's. Much like a carriage ride in Philadelphia, or a gondola ride at the Venetian, they are often intimate as well as fun. A two block ride costs about $5.00 plus tip. Be prepared to pay up to $15 or $20 if you are taking an extended ride.

A cab ride is a costlier alternative. You can expect to pay about $30 including tip for a ride to or from the airport. You could also use them for the destinations throughout the city, but be prepared to pay.

The Airport shuttle is available with a cost of about $10 per person from the airport to the casinos.

Car rental is the last option. Hertz, Avis and Budget have rental car desks at Atlantic City International.
